Description
Art in the Pass, a juried fine art show, held in Pass Christian's War Memorial Park, overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. The 2009 show featured 72
artists from 7 states. It is held in conjunction with the DMR's Celebrate the Gulf. This outdoor festival will also include a food court, children's activities, and live entertainment. The Silent Auction funds the Dot Hector Memorial Scholarship for students who will pursue an art degree in college.

The show is free to the public.

Please send separate checks for the (1) non-refundable jury fee of $25 and (2) booth fee and additional T-shirts. The 2nd check will be returned if the application is not accepted. Checks must be made payable to ART IN THE PASS and must accompany the application. *The booth fee includes one T-shirt. If you would like additional T-shirts, they are $15 preordered.
IMPORTANT: Each artist is required to donate a work of art valued at $35 or more for the silent auction. Proceeds from the silent auction benefit the Dot Hector Memorial Art Scholarship and other art related programs the Festival Committee deems appropriate. Silent Auction items will be collected during registration.

I, _____________________________, an individual, business or organization, wishing to participate in Art in the Pass, agrees to be solely responsible for any damages or injuries sustained to myself or others involved in or associated with my participation in this activity. Further, I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Art in the Pass organization against any and all claims by or against me, arising out of my participation in this activity. It is my expressed intent that this Agreement shall bind members of
my family and spouse if applicable, if I am alive, and my estate, family, heirs, personal representatives, or assigns, if I am deceased, and shall be deemed as a release, waiver, discharge and covenant not to sue AITP. I further agree to save and hold harmless, indemnify, and defend AITP from any claim by me or by my family, arising out of my participation in this festival in War Memorial Park, Pass Christian, MS.
In addition, I agree to abide by the guidelines of ART IN THE PASS. and I understand that there will be no responsibility incurred by the Festival or its sponsors for any loss, damaged or stolen merchandise . I authorize ART IN THE PASS to use my photos and information on the Artist Application and Jury Form for publicity purposes deemed necessary by the Festival Committee. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify an artist at any time.

All artists must submit a total of five (5) electronic images (image files cannot exceed 500 KB or have height or width greater than 800 pixels (.jpeg) or five (5) photo images representative of the artist’s work to be exhibited for jurying. A sixth image must show display booth with current work and be representative of the artist’s overall presentation. Please print your name and the corresponding number on the top of the back of your photos or on your disk.
• Artists must also include an artist statement describing the technique, materials used and any other creative
expression of their work. The images are the basis used by the jury in selecting exhibitors for participation in the
show. The artist statement will be used to clarify juror questions.

General Instructions
 An accepted application is a commitment to the show. No refunds will be made for cancellation, inclement
weather, illness, or any other reason. NO EXCEPTIONS.
 All artists must show for the full two days of the festival. Artists are required to staff their exhibits during festival hours.
 Our primary concern is the creative vision of the applicant and the quality of the work. Work must be original in concept and made under his/her direct supervision. Original art must occupy more than 50% of the exhibitor’s booth space. Artist’s statements clarifying production methods are required. All “Original work” means no copies, reproductions or facsimiles of any type.
 Commercial studios involved in multiple or volume production will not be considered for the show. No machine
reproductions, photo mechanical reproductions or commercial reproductions (photo offset, letter press, photocopy,
gravure or giclée) are permitted unless they are signed editions of no more than 250, properly framed, and clearly
labeled “reproductions”. Artist must define “limited edition” in their Artist Statement, and must disclose their
process to the buyer
 No mass reproduction in combination with original, hand-crafted work is permitted. Copies from the works of
masters, advertisements and widely circulated photographs are not considered original works of art and will not be
permitted. All items must be handmade by the artist. Commercially manufactured items, commercial molds,
patterns or kits are not acceptable.
 All work exhibited must be comparable to work shown in submitted images. Any work exhibited at the show
which is inconsistent with the juried subject will be removed by the Committee Chairmen. Artists accepted to the
show must exhibit two-dimensional work (e.g., photography, painting, watercolors, graphics, pastels, prints and
drawings) as appropriately framed and glazed pieces. Unframed, matted works may only be shown in one flip bin
and the bin must be clearly marked reproduction.
 Seventy-five percent (75%) of the work displayed in each booth must be for sale at the festival.
 The festival does not allow political campaigning, speeches or advertising.
 Be sure to send a SASE with your application. Images submitted for jurying by the accepted artists will remain the property of Art in the Pass and may be used for publicity and affirmation purposes during and after the festival.
DEFINITIONS OF ELIGIBLE MEDIA
Artists may apply in more than one category, but must submit a separate application form, jury fee, and images for
each medium; only the booth image may be repeated. PLEASE NOTE: If you are accepted in only one medium, you
may exhibit only in that category.
• CERAMICS/POTTERY – Original clay and porcelain work other than jewelry. No machine made or mass produced work is accepted. If multiple pieces of the same design are displayed, each must be signed.
• DRAWING – Pencil, charcoal, chalk, pastels, pen & ink, etc.
• FIBER – Work crafted from fibers including basketry, embroidery, weaving, leatherwork, tapestry and
papermaking. No machine tooling, machine-screened patterns or other forms of mass production accepted. No
factory-produced wearable items may be exhibited, regardless of additional modification or enhancement by
the artist.
• GLASS – No molds or other forms of mass production allowed.
• JEWELRY – No commercial casts, molds, or production studio work. All jewelry, regardless of medium,
must be entered in this category.
• METALWORK – Non-sculptural, non-jewelry works crafted from metal.
• 2D MIXED MEDIA – Incorporates more than one type of material, with a relief depth of less than 1/8 inch.
• 3D MIXED MEDIA – Non-sculptural work incorporating more than one type of material. This category is for
objects that are “decorative” rather than “useful.”
• PAINTING – Oil, acrylics, etc.
• PHOTOGRAPHY – Prints made from artist’s original image must be processed by the artist or under artist’s
supervision. Photographers are required to disclose both their creative and printing processes.
• PRINTMAKING & DIGITAL ART – Artist created prints, serigraphs, digital art, etc., properly signed and
numbered, in limited editions, on archival quality materials. Images of Giclées may not be submitted to the
Jury (but may be sold if less than 50% of your exhibit and signed/numbered). Digital Art is original work that
is executed by the artist using a computer.
• SCULPTURE – 3-dimensional original work done in any medium, as determined by the artist.
• WATERCOLOR – Layered and pigmented water-based media including gouache, tempera and transparent watercolors applied to archival acid-free stock or handmade papers.
• WOODWORK – Original hand-tooled, machine worked, turned or carved work.
CASH AWARDS
Art in the Pass is awarding cash prizes this year in four categories and overall. The categories are Painting,
Photography, Pottery, Sculpture, and Other. The categories were broken down in this manner due to the size of the
festival. The awards are as follows: $300 Best in Show, $200 Best in Category; $100 Runner-up in Category.
INSTRUCTIONS: Each artist should select one piece of work to enter for the cash award and display it prominently in
your booth along with the provided card. The judging will take place on Saturday morning and the awards will be
presented Sunday.
SECURITY
The City of Pass Christian will provide security around the park. However, participants should properly secure their
booth in order to discourage theft.
REGISTRATION & SET-UP:
 Exhibitors must check-in with the registration desk before beginning setup to receive their Registration Packet. Registration will be at the Park in the Silent Auction Tent. Registration and set-up hours are Friday,
April 9th from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (please do not plan to setup early)and Saturday, April 10 from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Set-up must be complete by 9:30 a.m. Turn in your donation for the Dot Hector Scholarship by 9 a.m. on Saturday.
 If you are traveling/staying in a recreational vehicle, generators are not allowed at the festival site.
 Artists bear the responsibility for all set-up and security needs for their exhibit. The festival will not be responsible for loss, damage, or injury of any kind.
 Each artist is provided a 100 square foot (10' x 10') exhibition space along with a shared 4' perimeter at the rear of the booths. All work exhibited must be limited to this space.
 Artists are responsible for providing all display booths (white tents preferred), racks, tables, and associated display equipment and supplies. Security is provided from 6 PM till 7 AM, however, Art in the Pass is not responsible for any damage which may occur to work, equipment or other material due to rain, wind, fire, theft, etc. Please make
sure you bring enough weights to secure your tent in the event of strong winds or storms. Artists are responsible for
the assembly and disassembly of all items. Electricity is not available in the park.
 An Artist Nameplate and Booth Number sign will be furnished by the festival and should be hung on the front
upper right side of your tent or display area. These signs will be collected Sunday for use in future years.
DURING THE FESTIVAL, ARTIST VEHICLES MUST BE MOVED FROM THE STREETS ADJACENT TO THE FESTIVAL:FLEITAS, SCENIC, AND 2ND, BY 9:30 A.M. ARTIST PARKING WILL BE NORTH OF CITY HALL ON FLEITAS.
 Exhibitors should be in their booths by 9:45 a.m. each morning for the opening of the festival.
DRIVING ON THE GRASS IN THE PARK IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED AND MAY RESULT IN A FINE OF $500.
CHECK-OUT & DISMANTLING
 Absolutely no packing prior to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Exhibitors who pack early will not be invited to return.
 Dismantling must be completed by 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2010.
 A Festival Evaluation Form will be handed out at registration. Please take a few moments to give us your ideas and input for future shows by completing the evaluation and returning it to the festival official that comes on Sunday between 3 and 5 p.m.
SALES TAX
 The Mississippi State Tax Commission requires (MSTC) that all exhibitors pay 7% tax. Sales Tax forms are
included in your Registration Packet. The festival will collect sales tax on Sunday, April 11th, between 3 and 5
p.m. Checks should be made out to Art in the Pass with a note for “Tax Purpose” and placed in the tax envelope
provided. MSTC has told us that you CANNOT send in your own sales tax report. We must send it in with one check for all vendors.
