Much more than a music festival. Vendors include visual arts, crafts, and food. One day festival featuring two stages located at Waryas Park at the end of Main Street in Poughkeepsie in the park between the bridges. Second Stage features a full day of Bluegrass artists from the Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association and various ethnic artists from the Dutchess County Arts Council. Main Stage features some of the areas best bands all followed by 2-3 headliners (past two year's headliners were Jimmy Cliff, Richie Havens, Jefferson Starship, and Burning Spear). This year Anna Cheek, Bill Keith, Joanie Madden, Jimmy Sturr and Bo Diddley are some of the performers on the Main Stage. Local visual art groups, such as, Barrett Art Center, Children's Media Project, and the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum offer on site projects and hands-on instruction to children and their families throughout the day. Also included in the day will be boat rides on the Fleet Ferry and exhibits, instruction, and a ride on the famous Clearwater Sloop. Fireworks high in the sky over the Hudson River between the Mid-Hudson Bridge and the old Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge wrap up the day in a spectactular array of sight and sound.
Entertainment to date includes: Anna Cheek, Bill Keith and the Saturday Night Bluegrass Band, Jimmy Sturr, Joanie Madden and Friends, Little Sammy Davis and Midnight Slim, Bo Diddley and more to come.
On the second stage we have Bluegrass with Blue Plate Special; multi-cultural music with O-Tatsu Taiko Drummers and Les Guyrivoirs-Ivory Coast Dance & Drum; and Father Charlie Coen and Friends; much more to come...there are still six spots to book on the second stage.
Barrett Art Center offers hands-on instruction with watercolor paints as kids and their parents line up their easles (supplied by Barrett) on the banks of the Hudson River. Also local artists work displayed and sold on site.
Children' Media Center supplies video cameras for kids to borrow and use around the festival. All of which is taken back to the Center and turned into a video diary of the festival. Included is instruction and education concerning the world of video and the visual arts.
Hid-Hudson Children's Museum is located on the site at North Waryas Park. You can check out thier website to see all that is offered.
Waryas Park Skate Park is also located on site next door to the Children's Museum. This is open to the public for a hourly fee per kid.
As the year goes on many other activities are added as we find them. This festival continues to grow as the days go on.
